'It Sounds Happy' July 2016

A0 Digital Print and Sound Installation

This work was made over a weekend spent in Barcelona. I began these pieces hoping to capture moments in passing, sat in a cafe having an espresso listening to the gentle conversations around and watching blossom fall from the trees above, sat on a beach at sunset watching a full orchestral production and spending a day walking around the city to find all the Gaudi buildings. These moments however were so enveloping that just seeing these drawings wasn't enough, photographing them in their location and displaying them as an installation with sound through noise cancelling headphones helped to transport the viewer into the drawing and into the moment.

'I Sit on the Floor to Draw' May 2016
Charcoal on Lining Paper

This piece is a series of six charcoal drawings, containing imagery from three years living and studying at Goldsmiths University of London and responding to the immediate environment and the people that affected it. These drawings aim to capture the sacred ordinary, the everyday moments and things that dot the landscapes of our lives, which when juxtaposed and suspended to be viewed and understood these commonplace objects and locations hold worlds of memory and ask the viewer to bring those memories to life. These pieces were displayed in the 'Tribus' Exhibition with PoptArt Gallery, Shoreditch and the Goldsmiths 2016 Degree Show.

'Look Up' October 2016
Pencil on Cartridge Paper

Building on my interest in the way that city planners and architects control our access to and appreciation of sunlight through the detail, layout and positioning of their buildings. I created a series of drawings of the negative space between the buildings in and around Bank, they were created in and amongst the monumental, cold grey steel and glass, and the vivid orange and graphic nature of them were a means to escape the oppressive weight and atmosphere of these buildings.  These buildings block out all sunlight for people walking below and in the evenings and at weekends the streets are deserted, looking up to the sky above is the only escape while walking those streets yet everyones are always looking down, down at the path, at their phones into their bags, never up.
